This is such a sad sight to see. The irony of what is written on the barrier Paradise. My idea of paradise is not another set of faceless buildings which have no architectural significance.
What makes this worse, is that as the layers of the external buildings are torn down, the actual library building stands proud in its brutalist glory.
There is no disputing that this part of the city was tired and in need of redevelopment but for me there is a concern. Planners in situ at Birmingham City Council have lacked the vision and courage to derive an innovative plan to incorporate generations of architecture.
As a thought from a non planner, this site could have been reused to mimic a venture such as the Tate Modern.
